On April 23, 2021, the training “3D scanning of small artifacts using low-cost scanners” has started, organized remotely by the Lublin University of Technology (LUT) for employees of universities from Uzbekistan – partners in the NAWA “3D Digital Silk Road” project.
As part of the training, participants will be trained to work with the Rangevision NEO scanner, loaned to Samarkand State University (SamSU) by the Lublin University of Technology. The training includes: organization of a work place with a scanner, operation of specialized software, device calibration, implementation of the scanning process and organization of scanning data processing in SamSU by specialists from LUT.
The training is a task preceding the first expedition of LUT employees to Uzbekistan as part of the NAWA project, which due to the global Covid-19 pandemic will be carried out in May 2021 in a remote form as a virtual expedition. SamSU and LUT employees will jointly scan selected museum exhibits from the SamSU museum, and then the obtained scan data will be used by specialists from LUT to create a virtual collection of exhibits in the form of 3D models.
