Shah-i-Zinda
Shirin Beka Oko Mausoleum
The Shirin Beka Oko Mausoleum is another gem of the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, erected around 1385–1386. It was built by order of Amir Timur for his beloved sister, Shirin Beka Oko. This structure holds a special place in architectural history due to its innovative structural and decorative solutions. It was one of the first in the complex to feature a high, blue drum topped with a dome, giving it exceptional elegance. Inside, the mausoleum impresses with a remarkable lighting effect – light enters through openwork windows with stained glass, casting colorful reflections on the richly painted walls and mosaics. The interior decoration, combining subtle paintings with refined majolica, makes this site one of the most atmospheric and exquisite points of the entire necropolis.
