The importance of the “3D Digital Silk Road” project for the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan
Rahim Kayumov’s speech at the premiere of the film “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan” 23/12/2022:
“Samarkand specialists do a lot of research, maintenance, renovation and promotion of these facilities. For example, for the first time in our republic in 2012, a 3D virtual walk around the Mirzo Ulugbek Museum was created, and in 2014 a 3D virtual walk around the wall painting of the Afrosiab Museum, in 2019 – a 3D virtual walk to the State Museum of Cultural History of Uzbekistan, the Regional Museum of Local History . A joint project of the Samarkand State University and the Lublin University of Technology from Poland has been operating since 2015 and deals with the 3D digitization of objects of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage. Over the last 3 years, our cooperation has expanded to include 3 more universities from Uzbekistan and the work under the “3D Digital SilkRoad” project has been a great success. This work will continue in the future.”
Scientific monograph:
“3D Information Technology in the Protection and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of the Silk Road”

The event was held as part of the «Samarqandiana» encyclopedic project to mark the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures. From the pages of his photo album, Jin Akino invites readers to a dialogue through a small epigraph: «History, tradition and our daily lives are a series of unique moments that often pass us by, erased from memory… Just think about how many of these moments are irrevocably lost for us?».
